Answer: 1) BCG (anti tuberculosis).

2) Tripple vaccine: Given against whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus.

3) Polio oral vaccine is given to build resistance polio.

(2) What uses of heat energy do we see in our daily life ?

Answer: We use heat energy for cooking, keeping the place worm, heating water for bath.

(3) Why do tablets of camphor decrease in size day by day?

Answer: Tablets of camphor are in solid state. Camphor has a property to turn into gaseous state directly from a solid state. Therefore, camphor decreases in size gradually. We can also notice the fragrance of camphor as it turns into vapour.

(4) What are the ill effects of chewing tobacco ?

Answer: (1) If tobacco is consumed, there are ulcers in the mouth. Ulcers develop into bigger wounds and they are later turn into tumours.

(2) Oral cancer, i.e. cancer of the mouth may be formed.

(3) Tobacco entering into digestive system cause cancer of any of the digestive organs. It also leads to various complaints of digestive system.

(4) A person with cancer has to undergo painful treatment. It can lead to death.

(5) What are the ill effects of alcoholism?

Answer: (1) Alcohol acts on the brain of a person. Person becomes drowsy and con- fused.

(2) Alcohol makes a person lose control over one's actions.

(3) Alcohol causes diseases of liver, intestines and kidney and urinary bladder.

(6) In which states is water found in nature ?

Answer: Solid(ice), liquid(water) and gaseous(vapour) are three states in which water found in nature.

(7) What is vaccination?

Answer: Vaccination is the process in which the vaccine is given to the person or child through injection or as an oral dose. This vaccine builds resistance against a certain disease. When the disease-causing germs enter our body, we already have the ability to fight against these germs. So, we do not get that disease. Due to vaccination, the out- break of an epidemic can be controlled and disease prevention can be done. Children are given vaccinations for many diseases as their resistance power is weak. Community programmes for vaccination are also done to control epidemics.

Answer: Cycling, swimming, drawing, painting, bowling, bating.

(9) Name the systems that carry out the different functions of the body.

Answer: Respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system, nervous system, skeletal system and excretory system are some of the systems that carry out different functions of the body. 

Q.9. Give reasons:

(1) It is important to conserve the living components of the environment.

Answer: If the living components of the environment do not exist, then the food chain and food web will not function. Some species will get extinct. Living things were produced on earth many million years back. It is not possible to get them back by man-made processes. If the balance in nature is disturbed it will affect human beings too. Therefore, it is important to conserve the living components of the environment.

(2) The numbers of wild animals are falling day by day.

Answer: Due to human interventions, many food chains and food webs are disturbed. Forests are cleared for making land available. Due to loss of forest, wild animals are displaced. Due to climate change and global warming, natural cycles are also disturbed causing survival of wild animals difficult. Hunting and poaching of wild animals have also reduced their numbers significantly. All these factors have led to fall in the number of wild animals.

(3) (1) When there is an epidemic of cholera, we should drink boiled water.

Answer: Germs of cholera spread through faeces of a patient. They pass into water or food. If such contaminated water is used for drinking, others may get the infection of cholera. Therefore, during epidemic of cholera, water should be boiled. Boiling destroys the germs in the water and therefore we are protected against the germs. In order to keep our health safe, we should drink boiled water.

(4) We should not allow puddles of water to stand in our surroundings.

Answer: Stagnant water of puddles is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Germs causing malaria are transmitted through mosquitoes’ bite from a patient to other people. Epidemic of such diseases will spread if mosquitoes are abundant. Therefore, to control infections of malaria and dengue we should eradicate mosquitoes. Hence, we should not allow puddles of water to stand in our surroundings.
